Server is either a software or hardware which helps in delivering content to viewers, so that the data can be accessed through internet. Server stores the data of a site and retrieves it whenever a user visits the site or downloads some content.
You have a domain and wonderful and nicely designed site. But there should be something that can hold the data of your site. That is exactly what a server does. It stores the data related to a site and fetches it, whenever a user visits that site. Without a server, it is not possible to display your site on internet as there will be no source which can fetch data for the user. Hence user can only see a blank page when your site address is entered in the address bar.
